AS220 Main Gallery presents I deserved a better goodbye, an exhibition by John Bhogal. John Bhogal’s creations show the capacity to overcome, to heal and to thrive. 134 Collaborative presents Exquisite Corpse, an exhibition of metal works by Calvin Hubbard and David Karoff. Both artists were inspired by the Surrealist practice of creating “Exquisite Corpses,” an exercise in which artists would each take a turn contributing an isolated design on a section of paper to create a fantastical image. Karoff and Hubbard’s metal sculptures, on display in the Black Box Theater, draw from this collaborative, process-oriented, approach to artmaking while also using the material to explore themes of “industrial production, environment, weight, and decay.”

Please note that the AS220 Main and Aborn Galleries are in the same building, and are within a few blocks of the Project Space/Reading Room!

July 17 Gallery Night - 6:30 pm tour details announced!

Join us this month! We will leave at 6:30 pm from the WaterFire Arts Center, and finish our tour at that same location around 8:30 pm. This tour will be led by Gallery Night Guide Danielle Wolfrum. We will visit the following locations and exhibits:

Sprout CoWorking Gallery is proud to present “Abstractions” A show featuring an eclectic array of abstract works from artists Eveline Luppi, Larry Maglott, Wayne Franklin, Lev Poplow, Robert Snowden, Michael Walczak, and Linda Binder. Big Nazo Labs | Visit the Rocket Mill Studio and it’s “Creature Tunnel Gallery”, home to the strangely irresistible foam-fabricated characters of Providence’s own international touring troupe, BIG NAZO. The group spawns a steady flow of diverse and seemingly unconnected visual elements to create spectacular “happenings” that manifest as stage shows, street parades and creature dance parties throughout the US and overseas. Some may consider their extraterrestrial junk pile of tentacles, props and robot parts to be a work of art.

WaterFire Arts Center presents Growing the NetWorks, a major summer exhibition building on the momentum of last year’s NetWorks Rhode Island and Chazan Collection show. Honoring the legacy of Dr. Joseph A. Chazan, the exhibition continues his mission to connect art lovers with Rhode Island artists and support local work. Featuring artists selected through peer nominations and connections within the NetWorks community, this evolving project reflects the collaborative spirit and creative depth of the state’s visual arts scene—now showcasing over 160 artists across two years.
