July 2017: Celestial and Terrestrial Folk Art

When people ask about our Gallery’s name we not only tell them that the painter of The Peaceable Kingdom, Edward Hicks, was not formally educated as an artist (he was trained as a sign painter) and we have folk art done by people who also lack the formal, western art education. But we also add that we love the peaceful side of the painting’s message. Thus far we have celebrated how well all the expressions cohabit the space and compliment one another. This Gallery Night we focus on some of these examples of the celestial and terrestrial.
