May 2017: Fair Trade Naga Weavings from Myanmar

Hours:  11 - 6 pm Tues. - Sat.

While visitors are not allowed to travel in the northern tribal areas of Myanmar (where they share boundaries with India and China) Joan visited a Fair Trade Shop in Rangoon run by a lovely family dedicated to helping support Naga, Chin and Karen weavers in these areas.  The textiles include traditional tunics and shawls as well as some of the adaptations of the weavings to cushions and purses.  While The Peaceable Kingdom has shown hill tribe textiles from Thailand and Vietnam in the past, this is the first time they have collected those of the Naga.
